Project Background

YMCA England and Wales received National Lottery Heritage funding to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the YMCA. LeadershipWorx were commissioned to work with the charity, to create and set up a heritage exhibition to re-tell the stories of YMCA, some which were already known, and bring to life those which were not.

Project Solution

Working with YMCA partners from across the World Alliance, LeadershipWorx coordinated the creation of the exhibition, launching at a reception held in the palace of Westminster on 6th June 2019 (YMCA 175th birthday), before preparing the full exhibition at YMCA 175 World Youth conference held at the Excel arena in London.

LeadershipWorx liaised and coordinated with 8 YMCA’s across Great Britain and Northern Ireland to record local oral histories and prepare for the exhibition to visit their local YMCA.

Project Impact

The Exhibition was seen by over 3,000 people that attended the 175 event at the excel centre in London (www.ymca175.com) as well as attracting significant numbers in the local YMCA’s where the exhibition toured. Members of the public, volunteers, employees of YMCA’s were able to understand the history of YMCA, both locally, nationally and internationally, inspiring them to continue supporting their community both now and into the future.
