Situated in the centre of Louth and serving the whole community, members of Generations Church began to share expensive school clothing when their children had grown out of blazers, PE Kit, Jumpers, Shoes and Sports shoes. Realising the costs they were saving as well as the reduction of waste there was a move to explore how they could expand this system of exchange.
Following a brave request on Facebook from a member of the community asking if any families had unused school uniform lying around following one of their children having growth spurt the church identified an opportunity to serve their community in the most practical of ways.
The Uniform Bank was an instant success receiving request from uniform but more importantly donations of uniform with years of life left which could be used by another pupil.
The bank outgrew its current home and the church were seeking ways in which to provide it with its own dedicated space allowing permenant access from the street.
As a charity the church’s focus was on serving their community so they did not have the time, resource or understanding to apply for funds to support this wonderful project so enlisted the help of FundingWorx.
Using FundingWorx’s tried and tested method, the team spent time with the Generations Church leadership to identify their hopes and aspirations with the aim of identifying and understanding the need which the Uniform Bank was addressing. After our first workshop what might have appeared obvious as the need (an inability to afford uniform) was in fact a far deeper need of support for families experiencing ‘in-work’ poverty.
An organisation brief was formulated incorporating the uniform bank project and 10 trusts and grant making organisations identified for applications and the FundingWorx team worked to empower the church team to be able to submit applications on an ongoing basis.
Currently supporting Generations Church through Tier 3 – grant submission process.
