Project Solution

As an isolated community, identifying members of the team with youth work qualifications was a challenge. Those appointed came from school or support backgrounds so possessed the care and interest for young people but a lack of understanding in youth work theory and application.

YouthWorx delivered their youth work training programme for volunteers and part time employees in order to help them understand the core principles of youth work, placing young people at the heart of ongoing delivery at Shine.

As an ongoing support, bi-monthly mentoring was provided to the team, facilitating collective and one to one reflection on their youth work practice as they sought place youth work principles at the heart of their work.

Project Impact

After a successful three years, Shine’s Lottery funding has been continued for a further three years with a dedicated team of youth work minded employees working with young people to provide a safe space and activities for them and their peers.
