Project Background

Frodsham Youth Association in Cheshire are a vibrant community group providing positive activities for young people throughout the week. Their purpose-built centre is something to behold, with sports hall, computer suite, fully functioning kitchen as well as several lounge areas…and all there to provide a safe space for young people in Frodsham. The building however was not accessible to all young people and the Association needed to rectify this so that any young person would be able to access and enjoy the facilities.

Project Solution

Working with the Trustees and lead Youth Worker, FundingWorx was able to build up a project outline, incorporating an organisational outline and project description to form a Project Brief ready to be submitted to funders.

We undertook a grant search for Frodsham Youth Association identifying 10 different organisations that they could approach including local trusts and national grant making bodies.

Project Impact

We were really pleased to hear that Frodsham Youth Associated were awarded 100% of the money required to ensure that their youth centre could become fully accessible with one of their first applications!

The association has not only received the initial funding they required but also have a successful project brief which can be adapted for future funding applications, ensuring that the charity is independently sustainable in their grant making processes.

“I was able to show Malcolm around our youth centre and the plans that we had to develop it in order that it was more accessible for the whole community – the building is 50 years old, on 3 levels and needs some work on it.  We run as a charity and are not linked to any statutory service.

Very quickly, Malcolm suggested putting together 2 of our planned projects into one, thus cutting down on volunteer time.

Next, we were given a number of possible leads through which to make funding bids.  Although we were aware of some of them, it was useful to know that our links were not exhaustive.

In making our application for our accessibility project, it was suggested we took pictures of how things were, together with writing a vision for how youth work would be more easily developed if we gained funding.

Malcolm listened, gave advice and was able to make pointers to how our application bid might be stronger.  Having the technology to make recommendations from afar made this a simple exercise.  I’m delighted that we were given 100% of our project bid and work gets underway this summer with the expectation that the youth centre can reopen with new access ramps, floors and toilets in September 2020.

Thanks, Funding Worx!”
