Supervision
Effective Supervision
Professional therapists are all influenced, in some way or another, by our unconscious processes, whether it’s our personal, cultural or sociological experiences, this can often make it difficult to be unbiased as to the best way to work with a client. Supervision can provide a fresh perspective and help throw light onto processes that may be missed or
feelings that can get misinterpreted. Ultimately effective supervision provides support not only therapist to therapist, but also acts as a safety measure to ensure that clients are progressing and receiving safe and a high standard of service from their own therapist.
When choosing a supervisor, a collaborative approach is key as there is always insight to be gained from a colleague that can improve how we work as supervisors. It is important that the relationship embodies qualities of openness and honesty on both sides. Effective supervision can be very exposing for therapists as we need to bring work that we think may not be going well and be willing to look at ourselves, in order to become better therapists.
Supervision should not be boring, it should be a creative venture where individuals collaborate together to discover and explore new ways of working and thinking, all of which are designed to improve the therapeutic experience for our clients.
Our supervisors recognise that every individual is unique and therefore may learn and process information differently. With this in mind, our supervisors are trained to offer different types of supervision models and will work with you on your first session to identify how you work best, whilst providing a safe space for reflective and professional development.
We offer a free 30-minute consultation to discuss and explore working together.
CounsellingWorx are able to offer supervision for 45 mins/1 hour or 1.5 hours and all our supervisors have undergone professional qualifications and receive regular supervision themselves to ensure that they are qualified and able to offer a high level of professional support. They are also registered members of the BACP.
